I walked by the Trover Shop last week and saw a big "Going Out of Business" sign in their window. Sad. It seems they are in their final days. Last week, they had posted all over their store "20% off all stock" and today when I popped in, the signs now said "30% off all stock." I overheard one of the sales people saying the store would likely close permanently in the first week of August. Maybe they'll mark things down even further in the weeks/days to come.
Trover has an incredible selection of Melissa & Doug toys (not sure why they're in a bookstore, but there you have it). There is a big display of wooden and plush toys in the middle of the first floor, and at the back of the first floor near the kids' book section, there is a spinning stand with lots of puzzle-like toys. Downstairs, I found M&D paintbrushes in the office supply section. Anyway, thought it might be interesting to those of you who, like me, like Melissa & Doug toys but balk at the prices! Oh, and of course, all the kids' books are on sale, too. |
| Thanks for the info-those Melissa and Doug toys are among my favorites for my kids and gifts as well. Well made wooden toys, no bells, buzzers, batteries or other newfangled contraptions the kids play with now-just good, old fashioned TOYS! |

Thank you for the info. I work near Gallery Place metro, so just wondering if they are metro-accessible? Thank you again! |
Oh, sure, they're just off the Capitol South exit, on Pennsylvania and 2nd Street SE. |
I can't believe they are closing! I used to go there all of the time when I lived on the Hill.
