| I am looking for learning apps that my not-yet-reader/writer kindergartener could do while my older child focuses on doing homework. Any suggestions? She is definitely interested in learning how to read and write... |
| I would have the 5 year old start with reading/learning the kindergarten sight words. |
| PBS KIDS Super Why apps |
| My kid likes Endless Alphabet, Reader, etc. Also one of the Cookie Monster ones lets her build words while making cookies. |
| I liked a couple math apps by Duck Duck Moose like Pet Bingo. |
| This is an app our kids actually use at school a lot & teacher recommended over winter break - starfall http://more.starfall.com/m/welcome/index/load.htm |
| +1 for Endless Reader |
|
For math: Cash Cow, Lumio, Teachleys, Motion Math
For science: Jr. Astronaut (ibook), Marco Polo, Tiny Bop, Arloon apps For reading: Hairy Letters, Word Wizard, Montessori Crosswords For open ended play, check out Toca Boca apps |
| Raz Kids for reading. |
|
I thought endless reader etc were very nicely done but they also weren't especially effective in teaching much of anything.
In my experience to date, apps seem better suited to teaching math than literacy. |
| Learn with Homer for reading is very good |
| My favorite was always "Sitting With Him and Being Physically Present and Not Using Electronic Devices." It was my attempt to make a human connection to learning, letting him know that I was present and interested in his learning, and delay the dependence on "apps" as long as possible. |
So you have no suggestion. Thanks. My son really likes Starfall. |
