| DD is a freshman in hs. She made the varsity team. She plays on a travel team in Division 3 WAGS. What else should she be doing if she wants to play college soccer- not necessarily DIV 1.? |

You can attend soccer id camps at local universities. Georgetown has one, there are many others.

Just a little house cleaning: WAGS no longer exists so she likely plays in NCSL as NCSL absorbed WAGS last year. 1. The PP was correct in regards to attending College ID camps. 2. Be on a team that will be accepted into College Showcase Tournaments. Being a 3rd Division WAGS/NCSL team may or may not be enough depending on the showcase. 3. If you don't want to change teams, perfectly understandable, you can look for teams that are playing in showcase events that might allow her to guest play. 4. She must take charge of her own recruitment. Contact coaches etc. 5. Tryout for ODP. 6. Know the NCAA recruitment rules. D1 is much different than D3 |

First, WAGS doesn't exist anymore so I'm probably responding to a troll, but anyway:
Not to be harsh, but if you're daughter is on a Div 3 team in WAGS., she's not going to be playing for Georgetown, a Final Four soccer team, and based on the fact that last season that division was won easily by Vienna's B team (U15) (and at U16, McLean's C team was able to finish a strong second), you need to take an objective look at whether this is a realistic goal for your daughter. But if you want to pursue it, the prior poster was correct that going to ID camps at the schools she's interested in is a good way to introduce her to the coaches and to see if she's competitive with the other girls interested in that program. Also, she can email coaches with her soccer profile and let them know what upcoming tournaments she'll be playing in, and maybe they will stop by to check her out. Lastly, if she is good, you should think about moving her to a better team as a D3 travel team is unlikely to be drawing many coaches to their games nor playing the level of competition that allows a coach to accurately assess a player. |
| Ha. Not a troll, just a little behind. We had a team meeting to discuss which league to play in and decided WAGS, but you're right, the magnet on my car is an NCSL magnet. Just a clueless mom- not a troll! |
| She's in the spring of her freshman year, so when should she start going to ID camps and emailing coaches? |

Don't be worried what the folks on here say, if she is determined and willing to sacrifice a lot of social things and do the work she will reach her goal.
Working with a top trainer on her own will be a great help Her HS coach and club coaches will be a great asset Go to a lot of different college camps that she is interested in. Get on their radar A relative was a jv player in 9th grade, was on a God forbid I say a lower division in WAGS team and ended up with a D1 full ride and made All Met this fall. Most of the players at her age will burn out, have already reached their potential or won't want to get to the next level. |
Did your relative stay on that WAGS team or did she move to another team? |
| I call BS. Women's soccer has 14 scholarships max ( and some aren't granted all 14 spots by the school) to divvy up among 25+ players. No one gets a full ride unless they're national team level or foreign. |
| DD doesn't really need/want to play DIV 1, she's fine with DIV 3, but we just really don't know the process or timing involved. Some very useful information so far- Thanks! She's been told by her hs coaches that she needs to seek a travel team with a higher level of play, but I'm concerned that there aren't really any other teams near us and I'm not sure how to go about looking. |
Generally speaking, where are you located? |
| College Park/Takoma Park/Bowie/Greenbelt are all easily accessible. Rockville and NOVA are not. |

Maryland united has ecnl team. That is your best bet. They are tough to get on.
As mom to senior soccer player still going thru college recruitment process, focusing in on getting a good team now and figuring out good target schools is best. A lot can happen and most div 3 teams are not figured out until summer before senior year. They want you to apply early decision. |
Team folded and went to a team in ccl |
