She doesn't have keys so no need to see her. I am planning on giving her severance equal to one cleaning. I prefer not to call since I hate confrontation and she is struggling financially. Just not happy with the cleaning lately and want to do it myself. |
I think email or text are fine. Preferably email. Seems more business-like. |
People here will tell you to man up, be and adult, blah blah blah, but I get it. I hate confrontation, too. And I have a tendency to babble, so face to face never goes well.
Do whatever makes you comfortable, OP. |
Ask yourself the same question.
If you were a cleaning lady ...? |
I think a text is cowardly. IMO. If you can't fire/hire people like a grownup, maybe you shouldn't have household help.
Time for big girl panties! Call her. |
What difference does it make how she gets the message. Either way will suck for her. I can see how texting would be easier. |
Rude? Yes, it's rude to fire anyone via text. Doest it matter? Not so much. |
If you can afford it, I'd tell her at the end of the cleaning in person and include the severance in her last check/payment. |
She probably has many gigs and won't care as much as you think. |
How do you normally communicate with her? If text is your normal way of communicating, I think it is fine. If you normally see her face to face (if you let her in), then I do think you should tell her in person. How are you planning to give her her severance? |
Yeah right. No way the OP of this thread is planning to pay severance! She doesn't even care enough to fire her in person or over the phone! |
You need to go back and reread OP's post. Particularly the part where she mentions severance. |
Would you like to be fired via text, OP? |

Next on DCUM.... A cleaning lady posts about the gall of her employer using text messaging to fire her and isn't it cowardly? |
