Is it rude to fire cleaning lady via text?

Anonymous
Depends on how long you have been cleaning with her. I ended up firing my cleaning person of 3 years because I think she grew complacent. I told her the month of the last cleaning that I wouldn't be doing regular cleanings anymore. Also, gave a nice thank you bonus for the last clean. I think it also leaves the door open should you ever think you may want to re-engage.

I think it's fine. You're saving her gas money on driving to your house (or bus fare).

How many more times will you write about your cleaning lady before actually letting her go? Call, text, email, in person with notice/bonus would be best. Pick one and get it over with.

Yeah right. No way the OP of this thread is planning to pay severance! She doesn't even care enough to fire her in person or over the phone!

You need to go back and reread OP's post. Particularly the part where she mentions severance.

She is lying, so as not to incur the wrath of DCUM. No one who wants to fire via text is going to give severance. How? GMAFB.

Assuming the cleaning lady comes every 2 weeks (doesn't have a key, so this seems reasonable) so therefore isn't an employee or anything, I can't imagine the cleaning lady wants to be told in person that she is fired. Think about it from their perspective. Super awkward. "I'm firing you because I just don't think you are doing a good job anymore". It's like a mother chastising her children. And rich elitist person snobbery to think a cleaning lady wants to be spoken down to to tell her why she is being fired. You would only tell her in person to pat yourself on the back about what an upstanding person you are.

Yes, text is fine.

PP that let my cleaning person go in person for poor work. I didn't tell her that was the reason why. I just explained that I would be stopping recurring cleanings and would move to as needed so she could give someone else my slot. No further discussion needed. My name is not Cruella

Oh and I don't think it ruined the opportunity to use her again. A year later she texts me just about every major holiday with well wishes.

NP. Yes.

If you regularly communicate with her via text, text is fine.

We did it via text. Very civil - no issues.

Don't overthink this.
