I am curious if anyone has experience with these DCPS past PK (i.e. K or 1st grade) and if you are at these schools for PK/K do you plan to keep your kids there for the rest of their elementary education or move to the suburbs, upper NW, try for an HRC or go private? Thanks!
Langley Seaton Celeveland Garrison Ross Thanks! |
Lots of variation on this list. Virtually no chance of Ross through lottery if out of boundary. |
| We are at Seaton and plan to be until middle school. The academics are in line with the curriculum. The teachers are fantastic at differentiation. My child is "advanced" but on par with 4-5 students in her class. |
| We are at Langley for PK3 and it has been great. I like that it feeds to McKinley Middle and the STEM emphasis there. To be honest, Langley is just beginning to gentrify, but the new principal seems good and the pk3 class is strong. So of you have a preschooler I think you would be fine through 1st or 2nd at least. |

I know people with kids in K, 1st, and 2nd at Langley. I know one kid in each. Right now I think it's still pretty iffy, but ok if you don't have a better option.
OP, the main thing for you is that you will probably have no trouble getting into Langley, Seaton, Garrison, or the English program at Cleveland later as an OOB student. So, not a high-stakes decision. I would go with whatever you like best for preschool and worry about the upper grades later. |

Ross has the highest math scores in the city. You will not get in unless you live inbounds.
Cleveland has a well regarded dual language program and decent test scores. You will not get into dual language unless you live inbounds I think the English only program takes a few. |
Just saying, we got in to Ross OOB last year, but stayed with our IB school. And we weren't #1 in the lottery. So it is possible. |
Wow. Would you mind posting which grade? |
