Two months ago we were going to buy a hamster for our kids for Xmas. You guys talked us out of it! We are now the proud owners of two adorable young piggies. They are super fun and have way more spunk than I would ever have thought.
And to the guy who was trying to convince us to get a rat-- we still may. Who knew rodents could be so funny and sweet? |

The only negative thing about them is they poop. A lot.
Don't forget to be sure they get Vitamin C and to trim their nails. Their nails need to be trimmed every 6 weeks or so. If doing it yourself makes you nervous (they are squirmy), there's a vet in Shirlington that will do it. |
| Do yours popcorn? That's hilarious to watch. |
I've already learned-- youtube has lots of videos-- and the vet complimented me on my excellent piggie pedicure skills. On the vitamin C and the vet said also they should have alfalfa hay until they are a year old. Which is too bad because it's a much less pleasant smell than timothy hay.

Yes! I let them run around in a big space at night and they go nuts popcorning. |
| yay - congratulations!! |
| What is popcorning?? |
they pop/jump straight up and down when they get excited. It's super cute |
Awesome! I'm the poster who said to get guinea pigs because hamsters bite and can be nasty. I love guinea pigs. Glad you're enjoying them! And great that you have 2 so they can keep each other company.

| This is so funny because my takeaway from that other thread was "I'm NEVER getting guinea pigs." |
| YAY!! I love them! Enjoy! |
| Glad it's working out for you! Now, I have to google "pop corning." |
Watch some videos-- it's hilarious. |
| Where is the original thread? I'm curious to see what people wrote. |
Congrats! Piggies make awesome pets and they are very sweet
