Car seat / boosters in UK?

Anonymous
Just looked up the laws in the UK and all kids under 12 are required to be in boosters unless they are over 135 cm. does anyone know if these laws are followed in practice? Wondering if I have to buy boosters again for my kids.

Are you renting a car or taking a taxi?

Will your kids meet the height requirement so you won't need a booster?

Renting a car. I don't think my nine-year-olds will meet the height requirement.

I'd bring a backless booster. I think their requirement is a HBB but not sure.

The height requirement in the US is taller than the UK - don't your kids already use boosters or do they meet the weight requirement?

From what I've seen, I think not. I think they move to backless boosters - and then to no booster - earlier than we do here.

The requirement in Virginia is until the age of 8, no height or weight requirement.

I live in the UK. Boosters includes backless boosters. But in taxis/ubers none are required. Or you can use alternatives like Mifold (which is great).

Even if none are required in taxis or users, if you are in a crash the crash forces don't change. Even though there may be a legal exemption for car seats or boosters for a common carrier (taxis/limo/uber) if you're in a crash, you're still in a crash.

Mifold is a great booster for travel.
