vacation with a toddler in a diving location

Any advice for places to go diving (probably Caribbean) with a toddler. The toddler, of course, would not be diving.

Dh and I went to St. Thomas earlier this year. We stayed at the sapphire beach resort. Kid friendly place to stay with a dive shop right there. It's right on the beach. We had a ground floor unit, so when one of us was staying back during nap time while the other was snorkling or diving we could still sit outside and see the water about 20 feet away. Reasonably priced. Not the most luxurious, but we had a great time. 5 min taxi ride to Red Hook with a well stocked grocery store and lots of restaurants. There is also a good restaurant within walking distance where we did carryout a couple nights. Our unit had a full kitchen, making toddler meals very convenient. You'll get a better deal by finding a unit through VRBO.com.

As you can tell, we had a great time and I highly recommend it.

St Thomas diving is lousy. Cozumel, Mexico, Caymans, or Turks & Caicos are much much better.

Grand Cayman has great diving and my understanding is that it's one of the safest islands (in terms of low crime rate) in the Caribbean.

St. Thomas is usually great - did you have poor water vis or something?

Is there a T & Cs place that would be good with a toddler?

Check out Windjammer in St. Lucia.

There's a Beaches in T&C.

We went to Curacao in May and had a great time. The diving is good--alot of shelf dives and incredible snorkeling right from the beach. We stayed at Breezes Curacao and loved it overall. The food was just ok though, if that is important to you. We stayed in Oceanfront room and from our balcony walked onto the beach and the dive shop is within view. Also had great bar/lunchspot about 50 feet from room so could dash over anytime.

BEST KIDS CLUB IN CARIBBEAN> Taken our kid to five and this is top notch. He begged to go to kid's club each day. They did treasure hunts, dances, all sorts of fun stuff. Great shady playground on beach. I can't wait to go back.

Is the Beaches there good?

We LOVE T&C and have been several times. We have never stayed at Beaches. All accomodations on Grace Bay are condo style with hotel amenities. Beaches IMO seems like an overpriced summer camp. Look at VRBO for rentals.

Do you need childcare? The Franklyn D Resort in Jamaica has a professional nanny assigned to each room. Otherwise in the Carribean "babysitting services" usually means a maid watching your toddler in her spare time for $10-20 an hour.

Most of the kids clubs at the mega resorts like the Westin or Marriott require your children to be at least 5 years old. Some will let younger children, but they have to be potty trained already.
