I've been looking at some of the admission statistics for schools like Smith, Mt. Holyoke, Bryn Mawr and Wellesley and they don't seem to be as competetive to get into as I remember from two the three decades ago. Are they just not as attractive to smart young ladies these days? |
Lots of international students and socially awkward americans. |
why did you leave barnard off the list? wellesley and barnard are still quite competitive. |
Still very competitive. |
For the most part, no, although Wellesley and Barnard are exceptions. |

Well, all male schools are almost totally extinct. Guess boys don't like being around their own kind- go figure. |
I work at an all-women's college, and while enrollment is down slightly, life on campus is vibrant. |
i don't think that's the reason why they are almost totally extinct. ![]() for some reason it is ok for women to discriminate and have their own colleges but for men not to. |
Actually, it's perfectly legal for men to have their own schools and 4 remain today. So it was the men's choices not to attend and be with their own kind |
Barn-yard? |
PP are you male or female? The reason I ask if you are a male than you don't understand that women need supportive environment especially in the fields that are male dominated. Men tend to dominate the discussion and if women are by themselves they won't get shouted down. Some women can go toe to toe with men, but if they are like me a bit shy than I often would stifle my thoughts and opinions because I don't like a combative environment. Being with all women gives us confidence to find themselves and not worry about "looking pretty". The chance of rape also goes down as well. Same with historically black colleges...which whites are allowed but, don't dominate. Do you object to that? After all for many years colleges and universities were all male! Let's give us a chance ok? But, if you are a women and think this way....than you probably are a Trump supporter and I can't say anything to change your mind. |
Can you blame them? Men on the whole are much more violent and horrible than women. |
Common Data Set show healthy admission numbers to me: 5000+ Smith, 7,000 Barnard, 5000 for Wellesley. My daughter is looking at male dominated field, and the prospect of studying at all all women's college is appealing - small class sizes, beautiful campus, generous merit aid in some cases. Also, the Wellesley-MIT, Smith-Princeton, Barnard-Columbia programs that allow cross studying opps is very appealing. |
Go for it! I'm a Smith alumna and would encourage all bright, young women to consider it. One of the most attractive features is the commitment to financial aid. Smith is an expensive private school, but is committed to keeping it accessible to all families. Average total debt after 4 years is under $25K. |
