Is Prenatal yoga a good place to find new expecting mom friends?

I have been having a hard time meeting other expecting moms, and was wondering if the classes in DC promote friends or if everyone is sort of in and out? Are there some studios that are better than others for this? I would prefer the NW studios, as I live in Logan.

I've only been to one class at Tranquil Space, but my guess would be it wouldn't be a bad place. Especially if you went to the same class week after week, and got to know some faces. It's in Dupont, between 16th and 17th on P, and today's class had about 15 ladies. Most though, seemed late enough in their pregnancies that I wouldn't expect them to be around for more than another month. However, there were a few that were probably still second trimester. After class at TS, they always have tea and cookies for those interested, and usually at least a couple people hang out to ask the instructor a question or two, so that might be an opening. There's also a boutique there, so people might hang out there for a bit afterwards also.

Not that it helps you currently, but I've also heard the Baby and Me classes post-birth are good places to meet other new moms.

thanks for the info. are the baby and me classes also at tranquil space?

It might depend on the class. I went to the class at Unity Woods in Bethesda, and it had a great teacher who recognized we were there for more than just yoga. She left time in each class for us to ask questions of each and talk about things. I felt like it was a great way to meet moms and bond with them.

Tranquil Space PP here -- the Baby and Me classes I was referring to are offered by a lot of hospitals. I know Sibley has them, b/c I'm delivering there, but I'm sure other hospitals have them too. Don't think you need to have delivered there, but I'm not sure. They are also free, and drop-in (no need to sign up in advance), both of which are nice bonuses.

That sounds great. I am delivering in GW, so I will see if there is anything similar.

FYI, Baby and Me yoga classes are also a great way to meet other new moms, when the time comes. Circle Yoga(Chevy Chase, DC) as well as Tranquil Space has them. I loved going with my son.

i live in Logan too, and am hoping to meet moms at Flow Yoga by the whole foods. I was wondering if there isn't a Logan Circle mom's group? I feel like there should be...

I think it's a great idea.

FWIW, one of my best buds is someone I met in a Bradley class. Our kids are now 7.

I just went to Flow's yoga momma for the first time yesterday in hopes of connecting with other expectant moms in Logan circle. Class was great but not as social as I thought it may be. (I believe the instructor was a sub which could have had an impact.) I'll definitely go back to the class. If there are other groups or avenues to meet moms in the area, I would love to hear about them.

I go to the Tranquil Space prenatal class in Dupont Circle, and I really like it. I'm still early in my second trimester and haven't met too many other expectant moms yet. But, everyone seems very friendly. A lot of the farther-along women in the class seem to know each other, probably from going to the class throughout pregnancy. I'm planning to stick with it - would love to see some other expectant moms there!!

Or just try posting on DCUM for other Logan expectant moms and arrange a meet up at a Starbucks or something. Someone did that in my neighborhood (Glover Park, through our GPfamilies listserv) and it seems to have worked out pretty well.

I live near Logan area as well and I'm expecting my first baby. If you all meet up, can you please let me know? sheri99ATlive.com

I went to Circle Yoga and they created an online group. It was hard to put faces to names. I also responded to a post on DCUM and attended the glover park meetup at Starbucks. That worked way better in my opinion. Also you can search yahoo groups or meetup.com for expectant mommy groups.

I tried the meetup and yahoo groups to no avail. No one actually wanted to meet. I know everyone is busy, but they would go through the trouble of emailing several times but when it actually came time to meeting, everyone backed out. The expectant mommy group on meetup had an event on sunday and only 2 people rsvpd. Sorry to hijack post, OP.
