Infertility Support and Discussion
|
I am interested in doing accupuncture before my IVF treatment. I know it is most beneficial to do several months before your cycle. I was wondering how much on average, accupuncture costs. I assume different courses of treatment have different prices so if anyone could give me a ball park price (if you could -- include how often you did treatments and the name of your accupuncturist) I would be so grateful.
Thank you so much! |
| I'm going to Dr. Yi - it's like $125 for the initial consult and $75 for each visit thereafter |

In my experience accupunturists charge per session and not per course of treatment.
I've seen 2 different ones and my insurance did not cover it either time. The first practitioner was in Annapolis and has since moved. $110 first sesssion, $70 each following session. Did IVF and got pregnant. Had accupunture about 4 times before and during stims and then before and after transfer and once or twice during the 2ww (so about 8 times during an IVF cycle). Then a year later I saw someone in DC. $130 first session, $90 each following session. Did a FET which was not successful. Did accupuncture before and after transfer only. Then most recently I did another fresh cycle with no accupuncture and it worked. So the jury is officially out on whether accupunture does anything to help my infertility. Although it was certainly quite relaxing. |
| With a recommendation from my RE Kerri Westhauser charges me $85 per session. I think without the rec it is around $100. |
| I see Laura Berkebile at the Teal Center in Arlington. She charged $125 for the consult and $90 for each 1 hour session, and I go weekly. If you live in Virginia and your health insurance covers acupuncture when provided by an MD, there is a Virginia law that requires them also to cover it when provided by a licensed acupuncturist. My insurance therefore reimburses me for half of the cost. |
| I see Lisa Eaves (Heal From Within). Visits are $85 and the initial consult was about $125 or so. She recommends weekly visits during cycles. |
| OP here...you posters are the BEST! Love this board. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Such helpful information from each of you and I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I'm getting myself set up for a consult this week. |
| If money is an issue there is a new community program in Ashburn, VA where patients are treated in a group session for $30 an hour. It is a great way to get acupuncture and not go broke. The acupuncturist that runs the program has a lot of infertility experience. |
They do that at Crossings Healing in Silver Spring, too. |
| OP here...wow, you guys are fantastic! More great info! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I'll look into the Ashburn program since that is near my home...money is definitely a factor since we are paying for everything OOP. |
| Kerri Westhauser is a Blue Cross Blue Shield preferred provider. My visits were covered except my copay!! |
| I also see Kerri Westhauser. My insurance covers 24 visits a year. She is so nice. I see her in her Falls Church office. |
