we're driving up to Portland, Maine for a few days over New Year's eve, and want to break up the trip. Can anyone recommend a fun place to stay between here and there? NYC is an obvious one, but since we won't have much time for really seeing much, I feel it's probably not worth driving into the city and overnighting there. I'm thinking maybe a small town that's fun and quaint, or maybe a hotel with something nice? Preferably not expensive (ie, not over $150/night)
thanks for any ideas |
| Westport, Ct is nice with a walkable section with shops and restaurants. Unfortunately, i can't reccommend a hotel. |
| thank you! I'm checking out the Westport Inn |
| FWIW I would not do that because it means you are on 95 in CT for longer than neccessary-- instead of taking 684 to 84, and 95 in Ct is usually awful. If you want someplace roughly halfway then I'd look at the Hudson River Valley-- Nyack or Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow. |
| Mystic, Connecticut. Cute town onthe river and the Martime Museum is quite good. |
Out of the way. |
The Merritt is usually the best route. So Westport should be fine. |
