I had a few questions about the AAP program - would really appreciate any info -
1. The CoGat scores haven't been received yet - do they still count for qualification? 2. Is there a way to access the NNAT scores if I don't have a copy? Do I ask the school or would it be on Blackboard? 3. My son's teacher transferred to another position and he will have a new teacher from January - how will it work out with the old teacher submitting her input? 4. Do we know if the child is in the pool before submitting the referrals? Thank you! Happy Holidays! |

1. It isn't that they count FOR qualification. The CogAT score counts towards or as part of a whole picture whether to admit a kid.
2. Ask the AART at your school. 3. It is don't by a committee. I assume the prior teacher already provided her input to the committee members or will do so even in the new position. (My kid's teacher was out on maternity leave from January on but the school said she provided her input while on maternity leave). 4. Definitively only if your child had a really high NNAT. Only possibly otherwise. |

1) the cogat is a piece of the picture. The schools probably have them now, or soon.
They will be part of the evaluation. Bear in mind that the CogAT is used as a low-cost proxy for IQ. The school system knows the issues -- some very smart kids will score low and some average kids will score high (sometimes by prep, sometimes by being good test takers). If you do not think the scores are representative, then pay for a WISC and parental refer. Even if in pool, it makes sense to do the parental form as it is your chance to advocate for the child. |
Thank you so much!!! Appreciate it!
