Newish to the area and looking to find an active Episcopalian church. Preferably close in, but flexible.

Welcome! Northern Virginia has many Episcopal churches. I can only speak from personal experience, but I have been very happy at Grace Episcopal Church in Alexandria. They offer a more traditional style of liturgy, but are more liberal/contemporary in terms of theology. (For instance, have had female priests for as long as I've attended, and are okay with national church's acceptance of homosexual couples.) Perfect mix for me. Merry Christmas, and best wishes to you finding a church!

You're looking for an Episcopal church. The people you find there are Episcopalian. Christ Church in Old town or grace Episcopal.

We go to Holy Cross in Dunn Loring. It's on the small side, lots of community service. The rector is really lovely.

If DC is at all an option, we adored St. Mark's Capitol Hill and made the trip there from NoVa weekly before we moved further out and had our son. It's very progressive, very intellectually interesting, has a lot of heart. Quirky, friendly community.

Active in what sense? Some of the churches have a focus for their outreach/activities. What kind of activities are you most looking for?
