Hubby and I are considering starting our own small business. Any recommendations for particular books on how to get us started? I am sure there are ones in those '[XXXXX] for dummies' and '[XXXXX] for idiot's' line of books. Are they decent?
Other helpful ideas? We are just starting our research... |

The Small Business Administration has quite a few resources that may be helpful.

small business owner for now two generations. keep your overhead as low as possible. A lot of people start out a business and think they need everything. You don't ..even if you are retail, you make sure you do not have too much stock.better to have to order than have it sitting there. Our family construction business used as few trucks as possible and they were old and minimize the amount of people you hire..esp. in this economic environmen and please avoid any loans. A friend of mine has a successful restaurant business and they are there all the time-help will walk out with everything.sorry it's true.
If you said what are you are in, I might be able to help more as I am not sure if my area is in the same realm as yours. Construction and marketing. |

OP here. Thanks all!
The SBA website does have great info.... We still need to lay out our business plan and such, but I am not envisioning taking out any loans. We won't need to make major capital expenditures on equipment, space, etc. |
