will hair dye dry out my hair?

Anonymous
I have naturally dry, wavy hair and I've also tried to avoid anything that would dry it out more. But- the gray hairs are really starting to show. My stylist says that he would use a deep conditioning treatment after the dye and I wouldn't have any problem. Has anyone else had this experience? Does it work?

Thanks!

i notice that my hair looks healthier immediately after I dye it, however, if I don't dye it every 3 months or so then it starts to look more parched than before I dyed it. So it may be a viscious cycle type thing, but if you're going to have to maintain it for greys then I say go for it. My hair never looks as shiny as it does after I dye it. I MISS it right now, since I'm pregnant and hadn't dyed for awhile before I conceived either...and yes I know they say its safe to do, but hubby doens't seem convinced and I feel I can wait it out a few more months. (FWIW I dye my hair dark, not light...not sure if bleaching products in blonde dyes are different).

When I had my hair professionally colored, it was always healthy. When I do it out of a box, it dries out fairly easily, even when I only touch up roots.

I use a box dye and actually my hair feels healthier than ever before not because of the dye but because of the conditioner.
