First date in 18 years!!!!! Help me!

Anonymous
Meeting someone for drinks tonight. I'm separated, and haven't been on a first date in nearly 20 years. Met him via online dating site... SEEMS normal and I'm looking forward to meeting in real life. What do I do? What do I say? We are going to a public place, driving separately, and I'll let a friend know the details.

I imagine some rules are the same, no politics, religion, or talk of exes during first date. Other things I should know? Should I flirt? Should I expect to hold his hand? Should I end the date with a hug? Kiss?

A hug is acceptable.....but ask him questions about himself. Maybe I have read "Date Lab" in The Washington Post one too many times, but it seems more often than not, those dates end up being about one person and somewhere in the article, someone says, he/she never asked anything about me.

Have a conversation and see how it goes. No need to put so much pressure on yourself. Be you, be genuine and find out as much as you can about him.

Do not go into this or any date with any pre-conceived notions of what to do or how to act or anything. Let things progress NATURALLY. Otherwise, you will force things and it'll just be awkward.
