When did teenagers openly drinking alcohol in public become frowned upon?

It was no big deal back when I was in high school. Obviously opinions have changed since then. Did this change take place when the drinking age was raised from 18 to 21? |

I think they raised it to 21 sometime during the late 1980s. |

It dtoenddd on the state. Mass was 1983. And I only know that because my brother made the cut off but some of his friends didn't. |

It was 1989 when all states assumed the "over 21" rule.
I was 19 and up til then that had been the NY legal age. |
