| Teacher invited me to come in and read a book to DS's class on Monday. Any recommendation on a book that 6year olds/class would enjoy? |
| The Snatchabook or Girrafes Can't Dance. |
| The Book with No Pictures |
|
I found Giraffes Can't Dance more appropriate for my prek class.
Having taught first grade, I would say crowd-pleasers are: Wink, the story about a ninja who just can't stay quiet: https://www.amazon.com/Wink-Ninja-Who-Wanted-Noticed/dp/0670010928 Extra yarn, a story about a girl who has an endless spool of yarn and how she transforms the town (includes a bad guy the kids love to hear about!) https://www.amazon.com/Extra-Yarn-Mac-Barnett/dp/0061953385 |

The part in Boy (Roald Dahl) where the hero and his friends decide to put a dead mouse in the candy jar. The kids are always riveted.
Or The part in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe when Lucy first comes into Narnia. It's actually always a good idea to pick a particularly suspenseful or interesting part of a longer book which the kids may not have read but could potentially read in the next year or two. You spend a couple of minutes explaining the context and then you launch into your chosen excerpt, with all the voices and expression you can muster. |
| Caps for Sale or Millions of Cats or Blueberries for Sal or Make Way for Ducklings. |
| The Day the Crayons Quit or The Book With No Pictures |
| Chrysanthemum |
|
The Gruffalo
Dancing in the Wings A Chair for my Mother Tar Beach Fairy Tales or the modern variations where the role has been swathed such as A cinderella story based on a different culture or The Three Little Pigs told from the Wolf's perspective A classic from your childhood that you enjoyed such as Peter's Chair or The Snowy Day. Shel Silverstein is always fun! Whatever you choose will be a treat for the kids and they will love it! They will be be happy that you took the time to come visit. |
