HI all,
We're thinking of doing this for the summer of 2017-- would be looking for a 7 day to Alaska. Have any of you done this and which lines would you recommend? Traveling with my DH, son 10, and daughter 8. TIA! |
| We did this when my kids were about the same age. Our cruise line was SilverSea. It's more expensive so there were not a lot of other kids but it wasn't a problem for us. You spend one day at sea and one day at port on an excersion as you move down the coast of Alaska. The activities offered were amazing. Dog sledding on a glacier, atv through the woods, kayaking through a eagle preserve, helicopter ride to a mountain lake. It's all really great. I really recommend it. |
| There are other threads on this if you search the archives. We did Princess last summer and it was great. Kids used the kids club at times, but also loved swimming on the ship, including an outside pool called a spa pool (heated and protected from the wind). Food is fine, shows are adequate (better on other cruiselines). Princess is one of two lines that have a permit for Glacier Bay, which was so amazing and can only be reached on a one way cruise. Excursions included the train into the Yukon, Zodiak boats , rafing trip, and gold mine tour. We spent 4 nights in Vancouver before the cruise, then flew from Alaska to Seattle for another 4 nights. Great vacation. Kids were 11 and 7 at the time. Get a balcony so you can have some private time when the kids go to bed. Plus we spent a ton of time on the balcony looking for wildlife-bring binoculars. |
| If it's a one way cruise be sure your cabin is on the correct side of the ship for viewing scenery and wildlife. |
| Disney is the best |
| We did a 7 Day Seattle-Seattle (was cheaper to fly in and out of Seattle than Vancouver) on Holland America and LOVED it. It was the end of August so there weren't a ton of kids on the ship but it was a perfect length and the medium size ship meant we could go in the fjords and get close to glaciers. |
| Thank you for all of these responses! This is great! |
Agree with this. We did Alaska this summer and it was amazing |
| We are scheduled for a 7 day Alaska cruise with Disney this summer. Never been to Alaska before but we have cruised Disney so I can speak to how great it was for our family. |
