When to Take Hospital Tour and Enroll #1 in Sibling Class?

Anonymous
I can't remember how far along I was when I took the tour of the hospital, I am 24 weeks now- is it too early? Also, DD is 3.5 and I was wondering if it's too early to enroll her in a sibling class? I want her to somewhat retain the info she learns.

Thanks!

I'm 25 weeks and we're taking our 3.5 yo DD on the sibling tour this Saturday. We will do the adult tour in late August. Hospital recommends 4-6 weeks before delivery for that. I delivered early before so I would err on the early side.

Has anyone done the sibling class/tour at Sibley that could describe it? #1 is 2.5 and I'm wondering if there is any point for her.

I toured the hospitals as early as 16 weeks...I'm a planner, what can I say? Now that we've selected the hospital, we'll probably that hospital again around 36 weeks. My OB advised the classes once I reach at least 30 weeks so that it stays fresh in my mind.

what are sibling classes?

They tour the sibling around the l&d unit and the nursery to show them where mommy and daddy will be when the new baby comes-it is a lot less in depth than the parent's tour obviously. My hospital (Alexandria Hospital) recommended we bring a newborn pic of the child attending the class because they will also talk a little about what babies do, how they can help out, ect. My DD is only 3.5 so it won't be as in depth as the class for 7 year olds and up. Check with your hospital for a complete description of what they offer! It's a great idea in my mind! It's not an easy thing for kids so the more preparation the better I think!

See Jessica Webb - she does (parent) classes and tour at Sibley. I'm taking a class with her this weekend. She recommends somewhere around 28-33 or so weeks I think.

My DD is 2 and I think taking her on a sibling tour of the hospital where I'll be giving birth would be a complete waste of time. At her age, I don't think she'd take anything in, except get excited by the new environs of a hospital and want to run around and touch all the machinery. I don't think anything is going to prepare her for the arrival of her sibling until the day the baby is brought home.
