Future of GT Centers in FFX county

Anonymous
Can anyone can tell with some certainty, what is believed to be the future of GT centers (elementary and middle schools) in FFX county?

We are seriously considering moving from Loudoun to Fairfax cnty within the next year, entirely for the opportunity of enrolling my on-going 2nd grader in a GT Center, in his upcoming years.

Since this move will have us enduring a significant monetary loss due to the present housing market situation, we are carefully researching all possibilities. I have heard about the phasing-out of GT centers but I do not know how far off in the future this would be. My worst fear is that our move would become irrelevant due to this.

Everything is up in the air right now. Before you sign a contract to buy a home, you might want to at least wait until the School Board has had its retreat in mid-July, and parents can get a better idea of how many Board members support different approaches. If the current policies continue, where FCPS opens more and more Local Level 4 classes in neighborhood schools and tells parents that the Local Level 4 classes and middle school honors classes are equivalent to GT Center classes, then it's only a matter of time before GT Centers disappear in substance, even if they still exist in theory.

GT Centers will be in place for next year, but all best are off for FY 2011, especially with a budget shortfall of at least $100 million just for the schools.

Depending on how much money you would lose on your house, you might want to consider staying put and putting that money into private school instead, if you can find one that you think would meet your child's needs.
