| When it's cold outside I've noticed the kids' hands and wrists get painfully chapped. We try to do lots of lotion but it's still a problem. Am thinking about just having them use hand sanitizer after peeing rather than washing their hands every time. We would still require a wash for poop and any time they're physically grimy. Is this a bad idea? |
| I think the alcohol in the hand sanitizer would make it even worse, no? |
I try to buy formulas with Aloe or Vitamin E. Pretty sure it's still less drying than soap and water. |
|
yeah, no way would I do hand sanitizer over soap.
Buy "cream" or "creme" not lotion - Eucerine, Aveno, Neutrogena, etc all have moisturizing products of varying thickness. |
| Hand washing is way better than hand sanitizer. Put aquaphor on their hands once a day (or even twice a day if they're really dry). |
|
I only ask my kids to watch their hands after #2.
It's not healthy to over wash your hands... |
|
I have just started putting creme on DD's hands and lips before bed. She has tough skin in the middle of her top lip that I think is left over from her sucking her thumb for 3 years.
I also dont make her wash her hands every single time she pees either, I sometimes still wipe her so theres much point. I do if were in a public restroom but not at home. |
This combo sanitizer/moisturizer gets good reviews: https://www.amazon.com/Gold-Bond-Ultimate-Sanitizing-Moisturizer/dp/B002ZXA71C/ref=pd_sim_194_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B002ZXA71C&pd_rd_r=25AH6Q4EQF54W225SA7G&pd_rd_w=xNL2k&pd_rd_wg=2WE7F&refRID=25AH6Q4EQF54W225SA7G&th=1 |
No ma'am. No. It is not healthy to toilet and then have your hands everywhere. You are setting up habits for their entire lives. It is KNOWN that hand washing after using the bathroom prevents sickness for yourself and others. Why would you do this? |
| I would use soap and water rather than hand sanitizer. Try putting lotion on and then gloves -- it locks in the moisture. |
This is just so wrong (and gross, seriously). Please teach your children to wash their hands every time they use the bathroom...and you should probably start doing it yourself. |
|
Wash hands every time.
Put heavy cream at bedtime. I use shea butter on my kids at night before pjs, some nights I coat their hands and put mittens over them for extra conditioning. They love their nighttime mittens. |
I don't see the problem with this. This is what my mom did with me when I was young too, and for the most part I usually wash my hands after #1 now. But if I don't, no big deal. Pee is sterile. |
|
I pretty much only worry about washing hands after #2 also.
I agree w/ suggestions to use creams. Winter is tough on my kids' skin also. |
I am far from a germaphobe and I disagree with you. Wash hands with soap after every bathroom Trip. It's not that you peed on your hands, it's that there's fecal matter all over a restroom (public and private). |
