Is there any harm in taking folate (I'm thinking the Thorne prenatal that has been recommended here, it's L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate) instead of folic acid if I don't have an official MTHFR or other diagnosis that suggests my body can't do folic acid? It seems not, but since folic acid is the default in prenatals, just wanted to doublecheck.
I'm also thinking of requesting metformin. I have PCO (polycystic ovaries)/high AMH, but none of the other symptoms (regular cycle, regular/thin weight) but it seems like diagnosing insulin resistance can be complicated--like just b/c you're fine on A1c, fasting glucose, etc. it could still be there). I kind of want to start taking it just to cover bases on egg health. I also had a miscarriage recently which is making me paranoid (sigh). Is there any reason NOT to push for metformin if I'm not 100% sure I need it? (besides the unpleasantness and needing to take B12?) |

No harm in taking Folate instead of folic acid.
I wouldn't take metaformin without working with a doc. |
| OP here, I just found out that my dad's side has a history of diabetes. Even my father is on metformin! (shakes head) FINALLY I can get a doctor to test me for insulin resistance and take my " I think I need metformin" seriously (I hope). |
| I am taking metformin w/o official diagnosis. Had the best cycle IVF out of 5 fresh ones that I did total in the last 2 years. |
NP. How did you get it? Did your RE write a prescription? Is there some other way to get metformin? |
| No harm in either. I take both. |
Mexico while on vacation, over the counter. |
| Also look at your vitamin D levels. Low levels are linked to pcos. |
