It's getting a bit late for this question, but we've applied to three, and I'm starting to wonder whether we still might not have applied to enough! On the other hand, I don't want to get too very crazy over this -- it's preschool, not college. (DH and I have joked about whether there's such as thing as a "safety preschool!") So what do others think/what did you do, and how did it turn out? |
I've had the same thoughts lately. Also in N. Arlington, and applied to 4 (actually 5, but the fifth was silly b/c it would never work - not full time). What I've been feeling doubtful about is how I feel about our "safety," which we do have. I just didn't put enough thought/research into it and I've been thinking that we could actually end up there and I don't know how I feel about that. |
Last year we applied to 5 schools (part time programs) for a spot for a two year old. We got off the wait list over the summer for one of the programs. |
I have applied to 5 and may apply to one more. I am not confident that I will get into any. I have heard that some people join multiple churches just so their child can get into preschool. |
Oh mercy. I actually toyed with the idea of joining ONE church (of my denomination) to get a leg-up with preschool applications and then decided that even THAT was unethical. We were intending to apply to only one preschool, where we had a low level of priority that we thought would be enough to get a spot, but after my daughter still ended up on the wait list we are now applying to a second one. |
Yes it is pretty sick. My friend went to the open house at Mt. Olivet this week and she said there were about 75-100 people there. There were also people from DC and MD! Another friend's daughter was on the wait list there this past year and she was #7. She just got offered a spot in January. |
I was one of those Marylander's at the Mt. Olivet open house. Only there because we're looking for a house in Arlington and plan to move before the fall. I suspect others are in a similar position. |
We applied to one and got in off the wait list the day before school started. We are really happy with it. |
12:08 here - just learned that we were today offered a 3 day a week spot (hooray!) and are now #1 on the 5 day wait list so I think we won't apply to the second preschool after all.
:0) |
Congrats! Can I ask which one you got into? I am just wondering when the results will start coming. Thanks! |
Sure - she got into the 3-day program at Trinity. She was #2 on the wait list for 3-day so that means she moved up 2 spots in about a 7-10 day's time.
We are still hoping she'll move up one more spot to get into the 5-day (she currently goes 5 days a week to another program) but I think now we won't bother to apply to Mt. Olivet. |
Which preschools did everyone apply to - did anyone apply to co-ops? Thank you! Am trying to get a feel for the process for next year! |
We've applied to three. We are on the waitlist for all of them. It sucks because we have twins and I think it is hard to get two spots!
We also thought about joining a church just have a leg up. However, decided it was wrong now since we don't have a spot probably should have thought harder about it! LOL! We have applied to The Falls Church, Trininty and another whose name escapes me! |
We've applied to Trinity (#8 on waitlist), Mt. Olivet (no idea), Falls Church Day School (no idea), and Colombia Baptist (also in Falls Church). We got into the 4 day program for 4 year olds at Colombia Baptist. I am also trying to get my two year old in somewhere. And I have a third on the way and would love a parents day out type thing. So, we'll see what happens over the next few months (Colombia Baptist doesn't offer these). I keep meaning to check out Westover too, but haven't made it over there yet. |
Columbia Baptist no longer has Little Lambs? It was a Parents' Morning Out program for infants and toddlers. My dd was in that program for almost 2 years (from 1 year old until 3). It was a co-op so the moms worked a few times a semester. It had had some problems periodically and was cancelled once but then restarted. Perhaps now it is truly gone? |
