Tucking in shirts or not - I'm a fashion idiot

I'm working on really updating my work wardrobe, after a pregnancy and several years of not needing to wear professional clothes all the time.

I have some nice pencil skirts and tailored, fitted button-down shirts (some long and some short sleeves). Do I tuck these in or not? I cannot figure it out.

Yes, they should be tucked in - UNLESS the hem on the bottom of the shirt is strait, in this case you can wear it untucked and a cute little belt to accentuate your waste and create a little interest.
