I had one when I was 16. Since it was done in my hometown, and paid for by my parents, I don't have any info about cost and can't recommed the dr who did mine. Dr. Posnick in Chevy Chase is very well regarded (another dr highly recommended him), although I have no personal experience with him. As for pain, I thought having my wisdom teeth removed involved a lot more pain and discomfort than having my nose done. I always hated my big nose and have no doubt that my self-confidence would not have been what it is today had I not had my nose done. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I had it done when I was 21 by my former FIL so mine was free, but I can tell you it was one of the 3 most miserable experiences of my life. I can remember it, since it was done under a local anesthesia (but I think this is very atypical; most use general). The recovery was the worst though. I remember thinking I was going to stop breathing the first night, to the point my parents called him at 3:00 am.

It was a very painful recovery, I had no idea cocaine-laced cotton packing (yards and yards of it) was packed up in my sinuses, causing that feeling of apneatic choking. My breath was ATROCIOUS from the inside out from all the blood in my sinuses, lots of bruising, etc.

Now, having said that, and having 20 years since I had it done, I would still do it again to have 1) a nicer nice and 2) better breathing. Just know going in recover will be painful and very unpleasant...

Oh, and when the surgeon advises you not to wear glasses, even sunglasses, for a period of time after your surgery? Don't wear them! My nose would be perfect were it not for the indentation my glasses made on my nose when the bone was still soft and healing...

I had it-Dr. Hopping in DC. He did a very good job. Most people thought I look great but couldn't tell why - he did a nice job of making it better w/o changing my face too much. It was a hard recovery but I wanted the surgery soo much that I didn't care about the pain. I knew it would go away eventually and stayed with my parents bec it was cozier than my place with then fiance (now hubby) who did not know what to do to help so nervous.

It cost about 7 grand I think but I bet it would be cheaper now in recession. The dr noticed i had a deviated septum (sp?) so insurance actually covered 1700! I had to bill separately i think - hard to remember process.

He is good and can show you what can be done on computer. I have no regrets doing it-although people told me I did not need it. It was just somehting that I was not happy with and now its great that i never think about it anymore. Good luck!

I had a nose job in '06 at the age of 42 by Dr. Lindsey in Tysons-$6K. Of course, I didn't feel a thing since I was totally under. Recover was very very eay, the pain minimal because of pain meds. I looked almost normal after one week-but the tip of my nose was numb for almost a year. Best money spent!
