12 month old not interested in walking

My 12month has been crawling for several months. Pull to stand and cruises along furniture but shows absolutely no interest in walking. She will push her walker for about two steps and then decide she can get somewhere faster by crawling. Ive tried walking with her holding hands but she screams and immediately quits standing. I have a 4 year old who was delayed in gross motor (still is in PT) and he walked at 13 months and was even walking with the walker at this point. I thought we were in the clear with my daughter because she sat, rolled, crawled and pulled to stand on time and with little help from us. My preschooler at this age was weak and stiff. Anything I can do to encourage the walking or should I call early intervention.

She's well within the range of normal. There's no chance she would even qualify for EI at this point as she's pulling up and cruising which means she is right on track. If she still doesn't have an interest at 15 months, I would mention it to your pedi, but I still wouldn't be concerned if she isn't walking then.

My daughter didn't walk until 16. Still within normal range.

Ummm my son just took his first steps at 17.5 months. I took him to the pediatrician and even Early Intervention, but they all said he was fine and just a "late walker", but even that isn't quite right because 9-18 months is the norm. I'm surprised you don't know that since you've been through PT before...?

Both my kids didn't walk until 16 months. Totally normal with no delays.

Mine started a week before the 15-month appointment.

My first walked at 17 months, second is 18 months and still not quite there yet.

One of our twins walked at 15 months. She was a fast crawler and got around very well that way. One day she just reared up and started walking.

My DD did this. Seemed to have no good interest, then at 14 months just started walking. She is 14 months now and is really good at it.

Mine start to walked two weeks after his first birthday. Now he is 1 year 3 weeks.

Side note: He still not saying any single words.

My son isn't walking yet at 17 months but has 25-30 words in his vocabulary. Their brains just do different things!

I'm a little confused. She is well inside of the normal range (and btw my gross motor delayed girl didn't walk until 21 mos). She literally may not have the strength or coordination (or sustainable motor planning skills) to maintain the supported walking.

I understand what you mean by "in the clear" and the idea that your second won't have the same issues if on target, but I think you have a good 5-6 mos before you need to worry.

Also girls often hit the language skill milestones before the physical. And she may just be a cautious kid. In any case don't worry!

I get that you are concerned because of your older child but don't expect more than your younger child is ready for. She sounds developmentally normal. If she is pulling to stand and cruising, she does not sound delayed.

My son started walking past 14 months. Now, at 20, he never stops moving.
Sometimes I wish I could go back to those non walking days...

Parent of a DS who didn't crawl until 11mo, or walk until 15.5mo. We only qualified for EI on atypical gross motor at 10mo with no crawling and refusal to bear weight when supported - and only barely. We were essentially kicked out at 17mo. Schedule the assessment if you want, but I doubt you'll qualify.
