How did your Wisc 115-120 kid end up doing in school?

Anonymous
Was high school a challenge? Was your child competitive for selective college admissions? Was hard work enough to keep up at selective high school? Did you find a correlation with SAT scores or was test prep the greater factor?

I'm confused. Are you concerned that this is a low score and not competitive? This actually puts your DC in the "high" range. You must spend too much time on DCUM.

One of the odder posts I've seen here -- and that's saying tons considering the forum.

My kid scored 111 on the wisc and I was so down about it because of this board. Now granted she did get waitlisted at her school but I really think these kids would be ok.

I don't know
For sure because he entered Sidwell in 9 th but I think my kid is above average IQ. But not highly gifted. He studied 4 or so hours per
Night in upper school
But did well and got into an Ivy. These tests measure a very narrow
Skill set. The do not measure work ethic, organization, social IQ or creativity. These are more important in the long run. It's more a question oh what your DS wants. Some kids love to study long hours while others hate the pressure. You child is bright enough.

Ps. He prepped for ACT and
Got very high scores so there is little correlation with IQ testing. ACT is
More of an achievement test than a aptitude test.

Your kid is smarter than 85%+ of the population which means you're either posting to brag or the intelligence came from your spouse.

Let's not be obtuse. The OP's kid is probably applying to schools that don't accept broadly across the entire range of IQs, but accept kids mainly from the top end of that range. That 85% figure is irrelevant.

+1. The question is about selective high schools and my sense is that this would be a lower range iq score for the very top ones.

Success has more to do with worth ethic than raw IQ score.

My son is doing well at his "Big 3" school.

Mine's at Wm and Mary, worked hard in HS, great SATs because of studying and prep. Has always loved school though.

Kid of a friend with that IQ went on to become an orthopedic surgeon.

Just shows surgeons don't need to be very smart.
