If so, what number were you? Which program? Or do you know anyone who has been offered a slot from the waitlist? I'm just curious. Thanks. |
DC was number 3 on the waitlist for entrance in 1st grade. We thought DC had no chance, but we got the call in August. |
When I did the tour at Rockcreek Forest a couple of years back they said that some years people with really high numbers in the waitlist get in. Sometimes people apply to more than one school or are still doubtful about going the immersion way and once they are offered a spot they do not take it. It seemed to me at that time that there was a lot of movement and your chances were pretty good. |
I wonder what the administrator meant by "really high numbers". The numbers are pretty tough. Say you draw number 80 for an entering class of 40. I'm not sure I'd count on an entire class of, say, kids who get into Spanish at Rock Creek Forest *also* getting into French at Sligo Creek, and then *all* of them deciding to go with the latter -- or even the rest of the class deciding that immersion isn't for them after all. The entire class would have to leave before your number comes up. I wish I could be more positive but it might also be helpful to be realistic. |
Four years ago, Rockcreek had not filled the K class in October....I was offered a spot even though I had a 70's number on the waitlist so I guess everything is possible. My kid had already been in school for almost a month and I did not want to uproot him. |
This I find pretty amazing. There were 363 kids applying for 50 spots this year at RCFES, so a lot of lottery winners would have to drop out. More than half are siblings, so they are highly unlikely to give up their spot. My guess is that if your number is not in the teens, you have no chance. |
We have friends who got in off the waitlist in October but had made other school plans (obviously!) for their son. It does seem like there is a lot of movement on many waitlists.

Maybe it depends how much the list moves by September/October. By October, a lot of families are settled in a school already and are less willing to uproot, so at that point they start whizzing through the wait list. But not before, I would think. |
