"President-elect Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress are drawing up plans to take on the government bureaucracy they have long railed against, by eroding job protections and grinding down benefits that federal workers have received for a generation. Hiring freezes, an end to automatic raises, a green light to fire poor performers, a ban on union business on the government’s dime and less generous pensions — these are the contours of the blueprint emerging under Republican control of Washington in January. " Welcome to the world that the private sector has been living in for years now. |
The dude wants to scale up the military, create a deportation force, and increase the border patrol. Ya, sounds like a hiring freeze to me. |
There are other agencies. |
Ya? Are you, um, like 12? You hire where the need is, and fire the dead wood. The Feds are used to job security regardless of performance. Those days are gone. |
And about time!! My SIL is crying that her job is no longer guaranteed for life regardless of her job performance. Welcome to the real world. |
| Here we go again. The genius Republicans will outsource government work to private contractors who make nearly twice as much to dong the same job. All in the name of saving money and socking it to those lazy government workers. |
Didn't make the cut, huh. |
| I know someone who works for the IRS and gets to goof off - oops, I mean "work from home" - four days a week. So that means five IRS employees combine to make five "real" work days at the office. I'm sure three full-time employees, meaning they show up to work, could do the work of the five part-timers. And before you tell me they work just as hard at home, the guy I know told me that he has a lot of work to do around the house and that's why he could only go to the office once a week. |
You've got to crack down on the contractors, too. There is plenty of work that employees could do that they contract out. See how much more work gets done - with fewer staff - when they actually have to show up at the office. No more running personal errands on the taxpayers' dime. |
+1 This is what happens in my agency. |
Hope you don't mind waiting extra long for your tax refund. |
And this is going to make working in the private sector better? |
NP. I was told I didn't get the job because we have a lot of immigrants who didn't bother to learn English, and they wanted someone who spoke Spanish, too, in order to accommodate to them in their preferred language. And this was an agency that gave out benefits, too....I say if you come here and want taxpayers to offset your expenses, learn English! |
Not if it means less money is being wastes by the deadwood. |
| The sock puppeting on this thread is impressive. |
