High school if you had to choose...

I think there was some racist graffiti posted at the school in 2019 or early 2020 by a student who had been expelled and the claims that the entire student body and teaching staff are "racist" has bounced off the back of that incident.

And then someone else comes along to support this saying "there are lots of incidents" but is at the same time, unable to specifically detail any of them.

So I think it is safe to say it is a largely liberal minded population, not one where racist culture is tolerated.

All this aside, I think all three of these high schools have pluses and minuses and your kid should be fine at any of them.

LOL, W parents trying to rewrite the narrative just like Trumpsters are trying to change the narrative on what happened at the Capitol on January 6th.

I'd get far away from the money in Churchill and Whitman. I'm not a huge fan of Poolesville, either, but that's where I would go.

AA PP is right. They are racist as **** in the W schools. I guess it's "good" that it's so blatant? At least you know what you are dealing with.

But there is so much money, and so little supervision, many kids are doing drugs -- lots of them and hard core.

Ok. That’s not what I need in my life now or later. Are the Potomac area private high schools the same?

Incorrect stereotype. People love to bash Whitman on DCUM. Mostly because they are jealous. The racist incidents last year were done by a biracial kid to get attention. My DC has a large group of friends at Whitman, none of whom are racist or do drugs. I’m sure there are some, but it is by no means widespread.

I agree. My AA son just graduated from Churchill and says he didn't experience any racism during his years there. (He did have a blatantly racist teacher -- now retired -- in 3rd grade in a Churchill feeder elementary school.) And he estimates that 20% of the students were drug users, but that they are easy to avoid.

Wasn't Whitman ranked a 4 by GS?

If you could redo it, would you send to a different high school within MCPS? Or maybe move out of the area altogether?

If I could do it all over again we.absolutely would move out of the area. It's far too overcrowded and it's getting worse. 30 students to a class in elementary school is ridiculous.

OP here- thanks for getting back to the original question. Where would you have moved to for example with very good qality schools? I agree 30 students in elementary is too much for one teacher.

Our elementary has 15-18 kids per class. Sounds like you're in one of the bad schools.

DP.. this makes no sense.

Title 1 and focus schools have smaller class sizes, especially in the ES level. There are a few ES in the W clusters that are also small, but in general, many of the ES in the entire county have more than 25 kids per class.

It does if you believe that bad schools have 30 kids in K whereas good schools have less than 20.

Lol you're funny

Remember when I said that east county progressives are trying to raise their property values by lowering the perception of the W schos? This is another example of that. Whitman is one of the best high schools in the state yet this person is trying to do people into believing it's terrible. GS rates Whitman at 9 BTW. It took all of
five seconds to look up.

Alleged students. It's likely that most (all?) of these stories were fabricated by progressives with an agenda

OP: If you are seeking a large home in a quiet neighborhood with a big yard (half acre plus), nice neighbors, close in, rich in diversity, and a great school, I suggest you look at homes in the Woodside/North Woodside neighborhood of Silver Spring. Middle school is Silver Spring International (IB programme as well as French immersion) and high school is Albert Einstein, which is relatively small, very diverse, has a fantastic PTA, the Visual Arts magnet, and the Visual and Performing Arts Program (as well as finance, marketing, and IB). Kids are free to be who they want without the pressures of parties/drinking/drugs bc the culture is so accepting. Truly. I have lived and taught in a few MoCo schools (both public and private) and can easily say AEHS is a hidden gem. Good luck to you and your family during this difficult time.

I agree, but the lots in Woodside are mostly a quarter of an acre. Woodside Park has deep setbacks (40 feet).
