White Lotus

I wanted to like it; the teenage girls are so clearly a knowing wink to Red Scare, but I find it boring.

Anonymous wrote:PP, I agree about the teenage girls. In what world would a teen girl keep it a secret from her BFF that she’s hooking up with an older dude on vacation. And why would it make her BFF upset. Unless the one friend has a crush on the other?? Also, now that I think about it aren’t these girls probably 16? And she’s hooking up with an adult employee. I guess he could be a teen and this is a summer job but he didn’t look like it.

I had also wondered why the family wasn’t in an bigger suite. doesn’t make sense. And if it is just a convenient plot line to cram them all together, that seems like sloppy writing.

I do love this series though!

Because there is a huge class divide between the girls. The friend isn’t as wealthy/privileged. The wealthy teen kind of views her friend as her pet that she brought on vacation. The friend goes along, but there are hints that she resents her. The wealthy teen is controlling. The friend is also hooking up with someone who isn’t at al wealthy (a waiter or something), which probably factors into her fear of being judged. But it’s also an escape for her from the over-the-top tone deafness of the wealthy family.

I grew up blue collar with some friends who were children of white collar. They weren’t over the top wealthy at all, but I was that friend. And I remember how I felt at times, not to mention their complete lack of awareness of how other people lived. But they tend to treat people as pets. That part of the show is brilliant. I actually think the newlywed story line is too blatant. It would be better if it were more subtle.

I think also the daughter is in love with her friend, and the friend is trying to hold onto the benefits that brings while also going and having fun.

I love this show so much. Jennifer Coolidge is a national treasure. Armand - I am enjoying the heck out of watching him. I think Rachel is up to something devious and I can't wait to see her square off with Molly Shannon. Steve Zahn being the weepy creepy guy at the bar! It's all so perfect.

Molly Shannon is in this?

Not yet, next episode.
What! I'm so excited, I love Molly Shannon. I love this show even more now.

They are the only useless characters imo, add nothing.

Really? I hate that I'm about to body shame but in her bikini scenes she looks like a 12 year old child. I know, I'm going to Hell.

You clearly never watched True Detective. She is about as curvy as anyone in Hollywood not named Selma Hayek.

I also wanted to like it and don't. The music/soundtrack is so annoying it makes the show unwatchable.

Any theories on who is dead and who is responsible?

I think the hotel manager is going to lose it and kill someone. The honeymooning wife is going to leave her husband and that's why he is so mad at the airport in episode 1.

From the opening scene I just assumed that it was the honeymooning wife. But now you have me wondering.... You're right, maybe it's not her.

I don't think it's the wife. Seems too obvious.

The soundtrack is one of my favorite aspects of White Lotus!

The two girls are awful. It's sad that there really are teens/young adults exactly like them IRL.

I like the off-kilter music. It is disquieting and increases the sense of dread.

If this is what you think a 12 year old looks like, I suggest that you reset your meter:

Is that a photo from this series? Because I do not remember her boobs being that big, but mostly I remember it as her lower body that struck me as looking very tiny. I don't really know her from other stuff.

Seriously? She’s got huge tits on a small frame, none of her bikinis fit properly in the show. I assume that’s intentional, though.

This makes me realize I haven't even noticed the music. I'm going to pay attention next episode.

She's lost a lot of weight. She's tiny now.

It’s full of unusual rhythms and vocalizations meant to make the viewer uncomfortable.

This is the theme, but what really caught my attention are the occasional sighs (ah-AHH) between scenes.

Okay, yes, now that I'm listening I have noticed this. I actually love it, I think it fits perfectly.
