Just picked up my kid from last day of 8th grade. He LOVED middle school. He wasn’t a fan of elementary school. He liked having different teachers, so if he didn’t like one it didn’t ruin his entire day. He liked moving around the building without being herded by a teacher. He liked having sports. He liked having electives. This kind of thing is what I expect PP meant by freedom. He was THRILLED this week when he was allowed to go 1/2 block off campus to a bakery to buy chocolate milk during an after school club because now he was so grown up and trustworthy. As he has grown we’ve given him total autonomy over homework and grades and he really loves that.
