U13 - Arlington or Alexandria?

Good god I f’n know but I have seen clubs do 40 minutes of drills because their kids cannot yet take a decent first touch or do one touches. We do rondos to warm up. Passing drills and dribble drills? For an entire practice? Or even 30 minutes? Waste of time.

Wait, the players haven’t perfected it yet, and the coach recognizes that so they are drilled on it still but that’s a waste of time. Got it.
Man, wish we had a little Xavi like you do. I mean I assume your DC is at La Masia.

I’ve seen rondos employed when the player parent adept enough yet. It’s a waste of time and just enforces bad habits when that’s the case.

Very strange that Alexandria is holding MLS Next tryouts prior to announcing next year's coaching slate.

Does anyone know when Arlington is going to post its coaching slate? Tryouts start Monday and nothing yet.

Sounds like maybe Arlington might be a slightly better fit, but he is leaning towards Alexandria, if he is able to get equivalent offers, since he has a higher liklihood of knowing at least a few players there. That's fine, and not unreasonable. Thanks for the advice.

my kid doesn't play on either, however he has played against both teams (league, tournament etc). The Arlington coach at the U-13 level yells a lot.

Take it for what it's worth. Our team noticed this on the sidelines so I am simply commenting on style relative to the Alexandria style. I think both have good coaches and produce good teams.

There is not one coach for all U13 teams.

The coach for the top team.

OP already indicated she doesn’t expect her son to make the “top team.” This was just you trying to slip in that your kid plays for the top team of some other club.

Who really cares? If you are thinking about moving to Arlington, just watch the video that was posted earlier and decide if you're happy with the way they are being taught to play, or would prefer something else. That makes it simple.

I'm pretty annoyed at Alexandria right now. My son is one of the weaker players on the red team, and will likely drop to white next year - we are 100 percent ok wtih that, he will be happier and get more playing time if he is more appropriately placed. But what makes me really angry is that they are inviting members of the girls team to his practicies, and then he often sits out of most of the scrimmage because there are too many players. We are paying a ton of money for this, and the girls have their own practices. We will try out elsewhere for this reason.

This sounds pretty poor. How often is he having to sit out, and how much of the practice is he missing when he does?

This is one third of one practice per week

How long has it been going on?

is your kid a high school age player? If so there is a reason for it

When you say "scrimmages," are you talking about the short scrimmages that take place at the end of an ENTIRE practice? So you're focusing on a short end-of-practice scrimmage at ONE of the weekly practices? WTF?

So strange to focus on that to the exclusion of the entire practice (and just ONE practice per week you said). I'm pretty sure these girls must be more than holding their own this practice for it to continue. Do you they create a higher competitive level during the entire practice? If so, that is good for all the players.

Like I said, the girls must be very good. Do you really think they would be getting the same development opportunity at the same age group for girls? Doubt it.

Guests get invited all the time to practices and games. I don't see any problem with that (or scholarships for that matter). It seems your beef is that you want to equate a player's end-of-practice "scrimmage" playing time to the amount you paid. Good luck with that! Not sure how your mention of "girls" is even relevant?
