What Work Moment Made You Go From Proud Employee To "I'm Just Here For The Paycheck."?

Nepotism has plagued our office. There is no upside.

When they made an mistake and gave someone a $10k raise when it was supposed to be $3k, but wouldn't give me a $300 award because they ran out of funds. Then they gave me a counteroffer when I left and called me two months after that to try to get me back again. Screw you people.

Poster, on behalf of all women in the world, I'm sorry this happened to you. This is heartbreaking.

I've only been there for the paycheck since forever. It's a job: they give me money in return my work.

When solid coworkers get suddenly axed and there is no substantive explanation why. Reminds me that no one gives a sh*t about anyone and all that matters is that hat I’ve done for them recently and what they’re doing for me.

We have lost 5 people since COVID started, they quit. Then, the cuts came, and boss would not stand up to the powers that be and tell them that 5 people have left since COVID - what MORE do you people want?! Then, the people who have "ties" were promoted (!!!) while the people who did actual work are leaving, and people don't have the brains to see who is who. How much more of this do we have to tolerate??

I busted my ass for years and built my professional credibility. I am no longer trying to prove myself and can maintain and build on prior success rather than building from scratch.

Also, I got older, matured, had kids, and got some perspective on the fact that most things at work are not life or death and can wait until tomorrow. Spending time with them and ultimately turning them into functional adults is more important than responding within five minutes to my boss's late night emails. My entire worth as a human being isn't contingent on my career.

COVID-19! From a p/t admin to F/T frontliner doing shift work; worked every holiday (even the Hallmark holidays) and I’m burned out.

Pre Covid I was in a job-share with plans to finally go FT to a supervisory role. Nope. Now can’t wait to return to p/t and I’m looking for a role with fewer responsibilities. Was thinking that I’d retire in 10 years, now thinking that I’ll be leaving in 3.

Watching a mediocre, white bro fail up while kick ass women on the same team get passed over.

I was “investigated” by HR for being a part of a group of trouble making women who had gotten salary information and realized they were under compensated. Ironically I wasn’t part of the group, but when one person had asked me for guidance I suggested that they either talk to their manager about their concerns or go to HR.

This all came out when the HR team reached out to me to share the feedback that I needed to stop being so empathetic to the younger employees as it made them more demanding.

Interesting, because for me its exactly the opposite.

When the president tweeted caustically about an initiative that I worked on, insulting my boss and undermining years of our work. While we had heard he wasn't a fan, we never expected a policy ultimatum to come down like that. It was dizzying and hurtful, and focusing on the reality that my job was just a paycheck helped me to get through the next few weeks.

Ha, this for me. Was working at a place with great maternity leave benefits that I did NOT fully use for my first. Came back from leave, worked my ass off, great reviews, etc. New grand-boss came in and promoted someone completely incompetent to be my boss when old boss left. Got pregnant again a few months later, took every minute of leave I was entitled too, used up all my vacation, looked for a new job while on leave and came back for one month before quitting to start new job with zero guilt.
