How liberal or conservative are the Virginia colleges?

I'm sure it's a bit different now, but still think the privates are more conservative, and VMI is super conservative.

This was back in the olden days when "conservative" meant "rich white people". Now "conservative" means low-information MAGAs.

Virginia is in the SOUTH.

Otherwise all public colleges are good.

How is everyone a Liberty expert? You are just parroting what you hear.

VMI is conservative? Weird. Military types tend to be very liberal.

you can't be serious...

I was surprised at how liberal UVA and W&M are.

I wish there were conservative schools in VA - other than Liberty.

PP.
So I guess the answer to my question is VT?

Among elite peers, UVA is surprisingly moderate. Very similar to UChicago. In contrast, UNC is super liberal like few Ivies.

DP. I went to Christian college and had a nephew at Liberty. No thanks. The admin restricts ideas/speech of faculty. Even my Christian college is dealing with some who want to shut down inquiry and scholarship, but the dean pushes back. Not the case at Liberty.

I don't know how liberal these schools are, but I remember all the tour guides at UVA and W&M introducing themselves with their pronouns. I did not see that at the southern schools that we visited.

NO I am tired of conservatives thinking every college needs to meet their specific needs.

Pot, meet kettle.

I think people want to avoid having classes go online because liberals keep protesting in a disruptive (and in some cases threatening) manner. Parents spend $$$ to send their kids to Columbia, but now classes are online. SMH! Thus, conservative schools might be the way of the future. Also, keep in mind that the "conservative" of today is really the "liberal" of a couple decades ago (back when liberals made sense).

Washington & Lee isn’t conservative. Not sure why you would think so.

Liberty is right or center. But it also isn’t a real university so.

They still honor the legacy of Robert E. Lee. He and his horse are buried on campus.

Just to be clear, I am talking about Washington & Lee here.

would you prefer that they dug them up?

No kidding. Go look up Yale, Amherst, Stanford and tell me they should be honoring those gems.

Oh for the love.

A few old losers on W&L’s board of trustees are old and extremely racist. That is the only reason Lee is still in the name. The other 99% of the people affiliated with W&L are much more liberal. Not militants, but liberal.

You missed the point. W&L is trying very hard to deal with the Lee legacy, which isn’t as simple as you think. No one seems to hold other schools accountable for their name connections to some pretty gross people.

Other schools have already removed the Confederate names. The fact that W&L hasn't is telling.
