An FYI that you need to wrap it in something or it will be too hot. You can use a thick tee shirt or sweater to make an insulating cover for it. |

Did you go OP? I hope you had a good time. I would have said you were fine to go as long as you were well supplied. |
Absolutely this! It’s easier to warm up while camping then to cool down - and I’ve endured and loved to tell about both. Pack extra blankets! I sleep better in cold, crisp air. Find memories of Girl Scout tent camping and waking up to snow flurries! |
Can you imagine someone "with a preference for warm weather" asking about camping in 40 degrees? Probably not. Obviously OP is NOT terrified of cooler weather but would like to ask some people with experience to make sure she's not making a mistake. Butt out please as your warm weather loving self does not have this experience. -NP |
We need an update OP! |
OP is obviously not form Colorado or anywhere in the Mountain West! LOL. We have taken our kids camping since they were infants. |

How did you do, OP? We were camping in central Virginia and with extra fleece blankets it was totally fine. |
Not the OP but just camped with 2 9 year olds and a 4 year old. Overnight temps were low 40s. It was fine. I was glad I brought an extra comforter to put over sleeping bags, and sorry that my new tent is exceptionally breezy-it will be great for hot nights. Enjoyed a hot toddy at night. |
We camped this past weekend with a 10yo, overnight lows in the low 40s. It was fine. |
We camped with our 4 year old this weekend, overnight low and at 8 am it was 36 degrees. We were not cold once, and I woke up because I was too hot. All our sleeping bags are rated to 25 degrees, wool/thermal longjohns for everyone, real hiking boots with warm socks, thin down jackets, insulated windbreakers, gloves and hats. It was awesome and cozy! |
I'm the PP above - brought ski pants for the 4 year that have a long bib. Made fire at night and in the morning. |
Practice in the backyard if you are not sure! We hike and camp (and x-country ski) in the back-country with our kids. Carried them on our chests or up high on our back in a frame pack when they were infants/babies. The last word that applies to our kids are "snowflakes" !
Nothing better than cooking while camping -- and our kids are learning to do it for themselves now at 7 and 9. OH -- and we are neearrly vegans, heheh. |
Too cold. |
