"Royals" will do whatever it takes to save the monarchy. Throughout the ages they've married for many reasons to keep power and the throne, and usually without any romantic interest whatsoever.

I had the same thought as OP did when I heard she was married. A person with criminal intent like her, at her age, does not get married without it benefitting her somehow. She is a snake and will seek whatever protective hole she can slither into to save her skin.
