Do you enjoy life?

There were highs and lows, but family was there for each other through those lows.

I try to keep a positive outlook and no matter how bleak things get, I can always find something I’m thankful for.

So sorry OP. It will get better promise.
It will take a long time to get over that. But not forever. The old life is gone but a new one takes over.

Happiness is understated, internal and durable, Pleasure is flashy, external and momentary.

Happiness is the result of constant work and doing the right thing, Pleasure is a promise that is hollow and can be achieved without work and usually without doing right things.

You sound just like me. Haven't been on a date in 15 years

Try and survive the pandemic. Get in shape. Grow as a person. Spend time with a person through distance dating. Talk to them. Maybe, when things are better you can go for a date IRL with a person you have developed a connection with. Maybe pleasure can turn into happiness.

I enjoy more about life than I do not enjoy, I think that helps. My career is super busy and engaging (more often than not), we surround myself with good, interesting, accomplished, positive people with whom we have a lot in common (including ambitions, goals and achievements, past and present); our nuclear family and extended families are not perfect (as are no one's), and we have our complaints - but the good far out weighs the bad. We have so much to be grateful for, and have gone through so many losses, it keeps matters in perspective. Simple pleasure do add up.

So yeah, I enjoy life. I feel bad for people who do not, but I honestly do not know how to help them. I do feel that there are more unhappy people in this area, than happy, it probably has to do with control issues, who knows.

There sure are a lot of miserable f@cks in the DMV.

I have a child with a lot of problems. My marriage is pretty good. I had a very hard childhood, but have made peace with my parents. I am close to my siblings. I have meaningful work. We are financially stable.

What brings me joy- my dogs, sunshine, kombucha, travel, the beach, podcasts, long walks, good food, music, Netflix, being cozy, fires in fireplace, good books, wonderful friendships, art, lavender, London fog tea latte, the West Coast, good BBQ, the smell of grilling, dancing, a pedicure, laughing, pretty lingerie, kindness, holding hands, sunsets over the ocean, Miles Davis, my garden, farmer’s markets, living in a safe area, architecture, Italy, an organized closet, popcorn, white denim, wedges, audible, the color blue - all shades, A baby laughing, Lemon sorbet, all berries, a cozy wrap, my husband, photography, car trips, Scandinavian design, textiles, helping others, white sundresses, tan legs, citrus anything, pretty (not expensive) jewelry, hot baths, post exercise feeling, cool sheets, hydrangeas, tulips, hope.

I like this post. Did the medication help a lot, and do you credit this for allowing you to enjoy your life? What kind of dogs?

PP yes medication helped me access the ability to see and appreciate these things. Good question!

Oh , on the dogs three rescues, one some kind of terrier, one pit mix with something, one hound.

Curious what meds you're taking! Also, is having 3 dogs stressful?

No I don't enjoy life at the time being. My husband is hospitalized for a suicide attempt and has been struggling with alcoholism. He's at risk of losing his job and my world feels like it has been turned upside down. I honestly wish I could just go to sleep and that's the end because I don't have much hope for the future.

I can relate to that feeling of hopelessness. Hope your husband can get the help that he needs.

ITA - poor coping mechanisms, and inability to stay in one's lane are rampant. One has to want to help oneself.

Love the PP with the list, because happiness/enjoyment/contentment really is the little things - and it does NOT include looking over the fence at what your neighbor may or may not be doing.

I do think it is how one is conditioned, how one grows up - if one is raised to be a victim (and thus lash out at other people, as a way of life), then that cycle just continues. If you don't get it, then...
