we sent our 3 and 5 year old back. best decision ever. like night and day in terms of mood and energy. they really missed their friends. |
I consulted with our pediatrician and she plans to send her children to their school/preschool in Sept. I also saw on NBC news tonight that if schools can open safely with distancing then they should open. They also say face masks are not necessarily helpful in younger children but helpful for high school

Yes, because many children will be in a really bad way if schools don't open (unsupervised, not enough food, no one to make sure they do the DL). OP's kid is not one of those kids. |
Should I keep my 4yo home from Pre-K? It's a full time program. I know I won't be able to teach him the way the teachers do. |
We are waiting until the research is more conclusive. Right now, initial research suggests that, at reopened schools in Europe and elsewhere, the younger kids were less likely or didn’t spread the virus. But IMHO, there are still concerns:
1) this is fairly early 2) I’d like more definitive research. 3) I’d also be worried about how adults picking up kids can avoid contact/airspace with child-care employees, parents, etc. I can imagine some slip-ups. 4) Most of the research comes from countries with better control of the virus and better tracking. Not sure if that makes a difference for us, but just noting. |
I'm in the same situation but with a 4 year old going to k next year. I have no idea. What are everyone's thoughts on optional part day preschool for a 4 year old? |
Our DD will be 4 in Nov. We are leaning toward 5 half days. But I’m not totally sure yet. It depends what her morning will look like. There will be a lot of restrictions in place, possibly mask wearing..not sure if that will be a good experience |
