Maybe it's because I know a lot of Persians (I lived in Iran years ago) but I think it's because they are disassociating themselves from the current regime. I can respect that and call them Persians. The name of the country doesn't always have to define the people.

I know a LOT of Persians from my old neighborhood in LA and yes, Botox and plastic surgery are big (especially in LA) and a lot of Persians also go into plastic surgery and dermatology as a profession so they all have "connections."
