Jay Powell is a better fed chair than bernanke or yellen.

What an amazing confirmation hearing this morning.

powell for president please! One of the best public servants of the last half century.

He’s polished, exudes leadership but also is humble enough to know what he doesn’t know and actually build relationships to gather information.

Republicans are morons for not embracing this guy as future party leader. He’d win crushing landslide elections

I'm a huge Jay Powell fan. I think he has done a fantastic job.

Not sure my political party matters but I am a Dem.

Why would or should your political party matter when it comes to your opinion of the fed chairman? What does it mean these days to identify as a Rep or Dem anyway? I'd be embarrassed to identify as a Rep if I were one and it's getting close to that same sentiment if identifying as a Dem.

Not PP but Powell is a Trump appointee.

Obama appointed him as a governor of the Federal Reserve Board. Trump appointed him as Board chair while he was still a sitting governor. Biden reappointed him as chair.

Why does he seem so determined to cause a recession? And why did he keep rates so low for Trump?

Powell, Bernanke, and Yellen are/were all terrible. Only good Fed chairman in a long time was Volker.

Umm.... inflation under Trump was something like 1.4%.

Powells comments today:

“We are attentive to signs that the economy may not be cooling as expected,” Powell said. “We are prepared to raise rates further if appropriate and intend to hold policy at a restrictive level until we are confident that inflation is moving sustainably down toward our objective.”

“Although inflation has moved down from its peak — a welcome development — it remains too high.”

Yep. Dem here. It's probably the best policy decision that Trump ever did at least IMHO.

Paul Volcker was the last great Fed chair. Most of them have been OK. Greenspan really screwed the pooch.

Yes, Volcker was a great chairman. I also agreed with his assessment that the greatest financial innovation in the last 40 years or so was the ATM. Everything else is just different forms of risk or leverage.

Powell: “Full Effects of Our Tightening Have Yet to Be Felt”

Oh but it will be felt. Consumer credit default crisis is right around the corner. Housing market won't crash like it did 15 years ago but it's a hot mess that will boil over in some aspect within the next year or two. These hard on the gas, hard on the brake Fed policies never end with a "soft landing" and it's usually the most vulnerable that get burned.

Bumping this since I called it almost 6 years ago

Legend

Dems should seriously consider him for 2028 even though he isn’t a party Dem
