DC: Unable to get tested even though doctors think it is Coronavirus

It’s really important. And it will get a lot of play on Twitter.

Can you ask her to post on Twitter if she hasn’t?

It's on Twitter already - she's gotten interview requests from Fox Local and CNN but she's so exhausted that she's trying to decide what to do. We have had responses from quite a few news and political people so far trying to put pressure on the Department of Health.

She's a little worried about ugly responses on her thread - but if you shoot me an email Adezvot31@teleworm.us - I'll send you a link.

Thanks for your support!

I don’t understand why so many posters are getting combative here. The point is OP is sick and cannot access a test that her doctor would like her to take.

Regardless of whether she has COVIS-19, this is scary shit and makes us look like some third world country where we are given the runaround about medical treatment while the leader of our country makes false promises on TV about how access to testing will be increased.

It’s obvious the dam is busting loose and we don’t have enough tests so healthcare officials are giving people the runaround and trying to triage the most severe cases because we don’t have adequate resources to stem this thing.

Sorry, not OP, but her friend.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE TEST QUALIFICATION RULES ARE ENTIRELY INSUFFICIENT.

9 people in DC have been tested. 9,000, or 90,000, is what our testing rules should encourage.

Unless she is in urgent circumstances, she shouldn't be going to the hospital. This is exactly the problem. Selfish.

Maybe that will help to reduce the panic and help people understand that people will still get sick with other viruses just like they always did and that you don't need to rush to the Emerg for a sniffle - that will make everyone sicker. Showing a negative test will help to reinforce the messaging already out from public health professionals.

This post should not go viral. The last thing we need is every person with diarrhea or a cough running to an Emerg demanding testing for a virus their symptoms don't even fit the pattern for. We need to get the message out to stay home, take care of yourself, and get better. Going out when you are sick into places where people are immunocompromised and vulnerable and in close contact is how we make people sicker. Hospital waiting rooms are not healthy places to be. Lets not put our health care workers at an even increased risk of gastros and flus and colds.

So ... you missed the part about where she traveled, has breathing difficulties, and was instructed by her doctor to go to the hospital because they can properly treat her as well as isolate her? You missed all that?

You think everyone who travels who has asthma or any SOB has coronavirus? Of course, if you call doctors and tell them you have coronavirus and can't get tested, they will tell you to go to the hospital - that is the standard answer for 1000 different things for liability reasons. If you have a person who is suggesting malpractice, poor care etc, you tell them to go to the nearest hospital.

The hospital is the only place to get tested, silly. You can't go to Labcorp and get tested there, you have to go to the hospital.

You people are nuts. “My doctor wanted me to get tested and I couldn’t.” “Well you shouldn’t have been doing what the doctor was telling you to do.”

Wild.

The cruelty in this thread is astonishing

The cat is out of the bag. We will all be exposed. Wash your hands & try to not blow up the global economy while you wait to vote someone (anyone) who believes in science into the white house...

I don’t think it’s all cruelty. The fact that a health department official (more of an expert on the symptoms of the virus than a personal doctor) determined that she didn’t need the test should have been the end of the story. The system worked as it should have.

+1 she’s done a good thing by making this public (and a favor to all the doctors who are fighting to get tests for patients.)

No, the DOH is rationing tests for pragmatic reasons, not because they know better. The doctor determined she should be tested, and she should be. And our Covid Czar promised that we would have millions, or thousands, or enough tests by the end of this week to do so.

Or maybe by the end of next week...

The point us that they are having to ration tests because we are absurdly below what our capacity should be.

No, she hasn't. She's just fueling the hysteria. Disgraceful.
