You may not but some will. Stoddard players train in VA with Metro DA every week. The Stoddard 08s just went to Penn Fusion DA this weekend with Metro DA coaches for some friendlies with Penn Fusion, Pipeline, etc. |
This is why Tysons will become the primary practice location. |
I am not in the least bit interested in Jeff Cup placements to speculate. That's my point. Jeff Cup doesn't matter and neither does youthsoccerrankings or got soccer. The game is different 9 v 9 vs. 11 v 11. Some players will be better, some will be worse, some will be what you expect. But assuming a successful team/club at U12 will translate because they are ranked high or are in a top bracket of any tournament is silly. DA/ECNL player movement across clubs also changes the landscape dramatically as many "top" teams at U12 are driven by a few key players. (Who may or may not be good in U13 per previous point.) |
Metro really always needed to just hold on until 08 and 09 when the feeder clubs can actually serve as a viable pipeline for the DA. Most kids at 07 and older had already moved to DA, ECNL or their respective feeder clubs at least a year before DA or ECNL age. Any 07 or older kids at GFR, Potomac, Stoddert, SYC any non-affiliated club had their primary talent leave to their destination club already. There really would be little left over for a start up like Spirit/Metro to build upon. 07 will likely be a tough row to hoe for Metro but 08, 09 and beyond will likely place them on far more equal footing with the likes of FCV, Arlington etc. |
time will tell. no one seems say how try outs went |
I believe folks posted that 15 kids went to tryouts while a core group of 08s were out of town at Pre DA friendlies. So, 15 kids in addition to already identified players does seem like a pretty good turnout. |
Last year was different. There were a lot of questions surrounding what Spirit was going to do, then MU was formed. There was a lot to get MU off the ground. This year, there are partnerships in place, no question of its future, and ID sessions taking place. You can't compare the two. |
Metro will field a 07 team. The quality of which will be determined but fielding teams beyond 08 and younger will no longer be a problem. They have also targeted an undeserved area as well so a shift in geography to Tysons will likely yield good dividends. |
Everyone seems to have assumed that they are shifting to Tysons. Maybe they are. That has not been communicated in any formal way to existing teams. In the name of transparency, that would be a good thing. Maybe they will lose a few players. Maybe they will gain some. But tell people rather than making it all speculation on message boards. |
| Metro has six 07s playing U14 DA games right now. They will easily have an 07 team. How good remains to be seen. But it is fairly easy to pull in PT players for games from feeder clubs. |
And FCV hasn't sent out a memo to their parents that they are moving to Springfield either but it is obvious that the move will happen. So when two feeder clubs are on one side of a river it makes sense to find a common middle ground that is workable for all three clubs. This doesn't mean that Reston is off the table but Reston will no longer be base for younger ages moving forward. |
So you think stoddert is a powerhouse? It’s not. Remember DA/ECNL selection will be maybe one or two players from a team. Some of the players who kill it on the 9v9 field will have problems on the large field. Things change on the big field and older age groups. The size and speed advantages enjoyed by many players in the u- little disappear as all the players make it through puberty. A DC player would have to drive by Arlington and Mclean to get to Metro’s practices. Depending on where you live it’s like 15-20 for Arlington, Mclean 20-30 and Tyson/Reston 35-45 minutes on good days. If in upper NW BSC or Pipeline will be easier. |
A club doesn't need to be a "power house" to have 3-4 kids who are quality. Multiply that by 3 clubs and you have a core. Be a club that directly feeds a DA and parents put their kids in that program if they feel their kid can play at a higher level. Presumably, those Stoddert parents that felt Arlington was an option had gone to Arlington already. Regarding a Stoddert parent driving by McLean for Metro is not true. The reality is the difference between the two clubs can simply be a matter of turning left or right off the Beltway. |
my point exactly! Metro will be lucky to field a 08 team. Im sorry a GOOD competitive 08 team. Looking at Standing only Mclean and Arlington are the top team near Metro with VSA having VDA, and Loudoun with Loudoun ECNL, why go to Metro? Only SYC 08 is a top team with no feeder club I will be curious to know where top players will go maybe BRYC. so what team does that leave with Metro? GFR |
Why would a 08 or a 09 go to BRYC? Because of their U19/18 team? |
