What fight? If your kid got into a magnet, s/he was not "touched" by the masses. Even with the "erosion," magnets shield kids, right? Isn't that what you wanted?

People who aren't satisfied try to get into magnet. If kids don't test in, those with $ go private. Or, some move.

You didn't fight; you escaped through magnet. not putting your kid down - But don't try to make yourself out to be some hero.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Magnet programs, curriculum, teachers and students are constantly under attack by MCPS. The reason is that it is easy to paint it as a target and appease sheeples who want the achievement gap bridged, by chipping away at the program as being elitist. It is an amazing tactic of deflection. MCPS cannot bridge the achievement gap because if its own inaptitude, so it lowers standards for every one, including magnet programs. At the same time, nothing gets done to actually close the achievement gap, instead using grade inflation and lowering standards, MCPS administrators play a smoke and mirrors game to fool people. Did you think magnet programs did not get the same curriculum 2.0 as everyone else? Do you think magnet programs had textbooks? Do you think that MCPS hired the best teachers for magnet programs? No, Sherlock, it was the same ol shit show. I am a POC and I could never afford private schools. I am happy to live in ganglandia in a "cheap for DMV" house.

Administrators routinely push out "magnet teachers" so that they can reward their cronies, who are usually substandard teachers, by giving them "well-behaved" magnet students, who will do "well-enough" on standardized tests. I am talking about yanking away magnet programming that was in place to give the students "standard fare" and removing enrichment. Magnet students are farmed out as "reward" to teachers so that their test results become better. The reason all of this goes on in UpCounty and at the middle school level is that we do not have the connected parents of W schools in our midst who would put the fear of God into these people, So you do the countless hours of writing and testifying in front of the BOE and Supritendent to improve curriculum for all levels and you cannot move the dial. Why can you not move the dial? The problem is with inept administrators, experienced teachers leaving the system, terrible curriculum and lack of textbooks and a very politicized central office. Race card is being played at every attempt to improve things. The irony as a minority parent is not lost to me. Yes, I am so done with MCPS. Counting the days that it is over for us. We have not escaped MCPS, but we have survived by spending countless hours almost homeschooling our magnet student. It is a shit system.

+1 to all of this

-Also a POC, who lives in 'ganglandia in a cheap for DMV house' who also agrees that MCPS is a 'shit system'
