Why are MCHS graduations held in DC?

I have heard rumors that the location will be changing next year as the upcoming classes are outgrowing DAR but have not seen anything official. I have heard maybe Xfinity at UMD or Capitol One in DC.

Every year there are families walking to DAR from the metro for graduation. Unless you have an elderly relative tagging... 10-15 minute is nothing. Get out of your cars!

Most graduations in other places will have them and issue a limited number of tickets. It works, not sure why schools don't do this here.

DAR graduations have limited numbers of tickets per family too. Not sure what you are recommending. The auditorium at our high school could not even accommodate graduates plus parents, much less siblings or grandparents. Even at DAR, the limit is 6 with a very limited availability for additional tickets if some families give back extras.

I'll take UMD over DAR anytime.
So much easier and less stressful

Really? Driving to College Park is a nuisance. I'd rather take Metro to DAR.

How is driving to college park a nuisance?

Well, there's the distance, the traffic, the parking...

Are you kidding??
Have you actually been to a graduation at the Xfinity Center?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say NO, you have not... because if you'd had you'd realize that you're going against traffic at that time of day, the distance is almost the same time as if you'd drive to DAR since you have all of the DC lights & it's a straight shot to UMD.

Oh, wait one more thing... did you say parking??

You have a point. But if you made your point in a more balanced and even-keeled fashion, you might persuade more people.
Parking was FREE & unlimited... not a problem whatsoever, plenty of spaces and we zipped in and zipped out; their staff runs that place like a well oiled machine.

Maybe, I dont know, possibly try something new?
Expand your horizons, keep an open mind for before you trash something that you've never even been to?

Not sure how other schools do it but my son’s school didn’t give tickets out until the day before graduation during rehearsal.

This added an extra layer of inconveinence since I then had to drive 45 minutes to drop off tickets to two sets of relatives. It was too late to mail. It was either do it that way or wait out front of DAR on the morning of the graduation with the ticket like the other 300 folks were doing.

Our school was down to only 3 tickets before the move to College Park.

APS also uses DAR. They book it for the day and run through three graduations.

I think I was in one of the last if not the very last class at Blair to graduate at DAR. It was too small and they locked the front doors when graduation started and wouldn’t let in any family members who were even a little late. It was a fiasco. We were on the local news about it. I think the next year they switched to UMD which was then Cole Field House.

It is the only way to ensure the kids actually attend the rehearsal and stay for the whole thing. It is not that hard to meet and give out tickets just before especially with cell phones. Hi Mom we are in front the of the Dunkin across the street..

I was thinking the same thing. I mean, if driving 45 minutes was the option that worked best for you, then that's what it was, but there are certainly other options.
