Banneker and Shaw to co-locate at Shaw?

how can the mayor "give" Banneker site to a crony?

I don't think that's what's going on here, but others do.

DCPS would have to first declare the Euclid building surplus, and then the Council would have to pass legislation allowing DCPS to bypass the law requiring any surplus-ed school to first be offered to a charter school. It has happened before, but with the brouhaha around this, I doubt it would happen.

Correct. This was the impact of Charles Allen’s amendment.

“Cronies” include her charter campaign contributors. She intends to use the Euclid site as an all-city charter middle school.

An all city middle school MAGNET at the old Banneker site is great idea and long overdue. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t support that. The mayor should announce that for good press honestly.

Says who? I’m half-expecting her to do something like this but haven’t seen it anywhere in real life.

Bowser said this at my neighborhood community meeting in November, a few days after her re-election. I literally heard the words come out of her mouth.

I heard all-city. Not charter.

Sorry but I am not staying through 5th on the mere possibility of getting into an all-city middle school. I want the certainty and buy-in of a strong by-right school and this will undermine that. No thanks. And I am not in Shaw.

What do you think an all-city MS will look like?

Hint: It's not going to be DCPS. They don't pay for political campaigns.

DCPS was consulting on this concept last year. They were talking about a city wide DCPS school, not charter.

I don't support it, and DCPS floated this idea last year and now they don't support it either.

Yes is what I thought also. But was the $ for co-location was in the amendment that Grosso passed changing the address of Banneker. But I did not read the language of that amendment. Two amendments passed in the end. Maybe they get the collocation study and a project line item saying they have Bannker when it is available. ? I am a bit confused.

Actually now Save Shaw might get Bannker do you think they will send Bancroft kids there also, to take some heat out of Deal?

That is how they will get the numbers they need to justify this thing.

They might divert some schools from Lincoln/CHEC and then move Bancroft to there. They like each feeder zone to be contiguous and Bancroft's zone doesn't abut the Shaw feeder group.
