I’m sorry, I wasn’t clear. There has been a lot of talk about a group of students who want more diversity. But there have t been a lot of students at the meetings. Was there a student-only meeting where they expressed this? Or written comments? |
MCCPTA leadership is from certain neighborhood. They lined up kids from their neighborhood to testify and all those kids came to Kennedy meeting. I am not aware of any student-only meeting. I was talking about 4 community meeting. Worst part was some students started debating with anyone with opposing view point rather than simply participating like everyone else and give their inputs. I don't think that environment is productive in such cases. We were told that it's not a debate. |
Do you have any children who are high school students? |
Yes, 2 kids in Blair. |
Then you should be familiar with two ideas: 1. You can't "line up" high school kids to testify. If they want to do it, they will. If they don't want to do it, they won't. 2. High school students can be argumentative. |
| I think its interesting people base their school opinions on parental income. So, kids of lower income professionals are not good enough to go with their kids even though that might have been their parents professions. Please stop saying Einstein is a great school. It is a great school but you don't want to announce it and have more kids come/crowd the school nor do we want people who are that clearly believe in segregation at our schools. Reality is a bright kid is going to do well anywhere and reality is that bright kid may be better off at an Einstein over WJ for college applications as it will be less competitive on the higher side. |
| The new reporting tool is the EAM, monitoring the achievement gap between races and poor/not poor. |
For 1 - there will always be students who want to do it. One can select a few from those, which is called "line-up". 2 is certainly true. |
You can certainly line them up by pre-selecting. |
Who is pre-selecting whom to do what? I mean, I get it. The high school kids are saying stuff you disagree with. But high school kids often do that. No need to resort to conspiracies to explain that. |
Look at the man surrounded by 20 students just because he had a different view. Sorry for saying this, but if you start surrounding parents for having different opinions , it will come like being hostile. May not be intention of students, but it looks that way. |
Forgot the link - https://www.mymcmedia.org/community-members-divided-over-montgomery-school-boundary-analysis/ |
Not "just because he had a different view," presumably. But rather because he had the specific view that he had. Also, whom are you addressing in your post? |
Why don't you share whatever he said it so we can see why 20 students are surrounding a man? I am simply going by details in link here. I was addressing the PP who said teens can argue. Well, 2 kids arguing over some point is different than 20 students surrounding some one. |
| Not a good look..... |
